Starship Troopers
by Robert Heinlein

Don’t judge this book by the movie. The movie was action-rubbish. The book is an exercise in political ideas and the description of a hypothetical interstellar war from the perspective of a foot soldier. It just had the unfortunate luck of being picked up by moviemakers that did a poor job with it. This is one of my favorite Heinlein books, with his classic mix of space, ideology, and human nature. It was very controversial when it was first published, and although teachers no longer ban it from libraries, the ideas about suffrage, rights, and citizenship are still intriguing.
