Valhalla Rising
by Clive Cussler

This is a classic Dirk Pitt adventure with a Viking flavor, complete with evil multinational conglomerate and a cameo appearance by Cussler himself, who often appears in his own novels. In the novel, Dirk Pitt prevents a terrorist attack in New York, in which terrorists plan to blow up the World Trade Center. (Someone should perhaps let them know that their intelligence is about five years old.) However, the book departs from classic Dirk Pitt formula at the end when Pitt’s long-lost children appear. It’s all to set up the end of the Dirk Pitt series, but it’s a little out of the blue and doesn’t quite work with the book.
